Great location. Starting to show its age. Rooms could be cleaner. Poor value at $200.
In a city with lower end to mid-level hotels, it's probably the best option. The location is by the regional hospital (so there is a lot of hospital-related business, especially weeknights) and within walking distance of downtown. It's also a short drive from the big-box stores on the outskirts of Marquette.
Unfortunately, the hotel is starting to show its age.
In the bathroom, there was mold or mildew in the shower-bathtub. It also needed new caulking. There was also hair in the bathtub.
Some of the furniture was a little scuffed here and there.
The TV was a little smaller than you expect. Most comparable hotels have a 50 or 55 inch TV these days. No smart TV capabilities.
The kitchen was mostly stocked, though some things seemed short as if guests had swiped items over the years. For example, three wine glasses, four Collins or highball glasses, and two rocks glasses. Two forks but three knifes. You get the idea.
Full housekeeping is only once every 7 days, although they replace trash and towels daily Monday to Friday. But absolutely nothing on weekends. If you check in Thursday for 3 nights, you will only get new towels and your trash emptied on Friday. Nothing Saturday and nothing Sunday. That's unacceptable. This also means rooms are almost certainly dirtier because housekeepers likely don't get extra time during the full clean every 7 days. For entry-level rooms at $200 a night, I expect daily service.
IHG recognition was basic.
While I was waiting to check-in a guest arriving the following day was on the telephone asking to be upgraded. Instead of following IHG procedure and telling the guest that upgrades were based on availability at check-in, the front desk clerk upgraded the customer. When it was my time to check-in there was no upgrade available for the duration of my stay because of this improper application of the IHG upgrade policy. That's unacceptable. While I was offered the choice of a market item or points, I didn't get a bottle of water or find a bottle of water in the room. Most hotels give elites a bottle of water on top of points or the market item choice.
The Staybridge weekday happy hour reception at this property is limited to Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. So nothing Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Again, that's poor value. Just like not offering any housekeeping on weekends. It's like the guests who stay Thursday-Sunday are second-class guests.
A couple other points:
1) I appreciated having the local newspaper -- that's nice
2) Breakfast is weird. Officially it starts at 7:30 am on weekdays. That's a little late. 7 am would be better. Cold items were put out starting around 5:30 am. So, by the time 7:30 am comes and breakfast officially starts, some items on the buffet have been left out at room temperature or lightly chilled for 2 hours. Not only does that not make sense, but I'm not sure I want to eat yogurt that's been left out open-air for 2 hours. Or drink coffee that's 2 hours old.
All things considered, Marquette just doesn't have any really good hotels. The Staybridge Suites is better than some of the other options in town, especially its location, but the overall value isn't there and after 8 years the property is starting to show its age. And at $200+ per night in the summer, it's a really poor value. In most markets, this hotel would be priced at $90-$150 per night. I hope a renovation will add a full bar, which would be a great option. At least some decent wine and decent beer if you can't get a spirits license.

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay. We would like to sincerely apologize that we did not meet your expectations during your stay at our hotel. I want to clarify a few points that you brought up in your comments. Our housekeeping policy is stated clearly at the desk and is the brand standard for IHG. With that being said, we do take requests for housekeeping service over the weekend. We do try to upgrade our Platinum and Diamond members but this is not always possible depending on occupancy and time of booking. The happy hour reception is only Monday through Wednesday based on IHG brand standards. Breakfast hours are 6:30am-9:30am on weekdays and 7:30am-10:30am on weekends. The cold breakfast items are put out at 5:30am into a chilling table which keeps the cold items at the required temperatures. We have passed all of our kitchen inspections with flying colors which includes having the proper temperatures of cold and hot foods. Could have taken more time in room preparation . Main ceiling was burned out . Dishwasher was not emptied from previous guests , annoying noice from bathroom vent all the time .
