Tipping in Canada is actually similar to tipping in the US. Most service based jobs receive a lower wage and depend on tips to supplement their income. Below is a guide on common tipping practices in Canada.
Currency: Canadian Dollar
| Taxi | 10 – 20% of the final fare. |
| Hotel | Housekeeper: $2 – $5 per day. Bellhop: $2 – $5 per bag Concierge: Typically not tipped Doorman: $1- $2 for helping with bags or hailing a cab. |
| Restaurants | 15 – 20% of the bill. |
| Tours | $2 – $3 per person |
Taxi
Taxi cab drivers expect to be tipped 10 to 20% of the final fare. If your driver has been helpful with luggage, a couple extra dollars wouldn’t hurt.
Airport shuttle drivers generally don’t expect to be tipped. If they have been helpful $2 to $5 is common.
Hotel
The Doorman can be tipped $1 to $2 for hailing a cab.
The Bellman can be tipped $2 to $5 per bag.
Housekeeping can be tipped $2 to $5 a day for keeping your room neat and tidy.
Concierge is not generally tipped. However if they are helpful, leaving a tip is also gracious.
