Simple Exercises You Can Do in the Airport on Your Next Layover
Lots of traveling means lots of time sitting on our behinds… before the flight, flight delays, layovers, on the flight… Let’s get up and move! After all of that holiday food it feels good to stay fit and all of the downtime at the airport is the perfect time to get some exercises in! Here are some simple exercises you can do at the airport (that keep you from touching the floor and that won’t make too many people stare).
Squats
Work that behind while you’re waiting at the gate. Feet are hip width distance, put the weight in your heels and squat to 90 degrees.
Lunges
Find an area that isn’t too crowded and lunge out with one leg forward or backwards. Ensure your front knee doesn’t go past your toes.
Chair Push Ups
Do a push up with your hands on the edge of a chair so you aren’t touching the airport floor.
Wall Sit
No seats available? No problem! Sit up against a wall with your legs at a 90 degree angle and hold it for as long as you can.
Tricep Dips
Hold yourself up on the edge of a chair and lower yourself down. The farther forward you extend your legs, the harder it is.
Walk / Climb Stairs
Take a few laps around the airport and go up and down the staircase as many times as you can.
Seated Leg Lifts
You can do this one even on the plane… if there is any leg room that is! Squeeze your thighs as you raise your legs out in front of you.
Stretch
I like to sit on the chairs and stretch out before I get on my flight.
These are just some of my favorite airport workouts because they usually don’t make people stare, and they keep my hands off of the dirty airport floor. Do you have any other exercises you like to do at the airport?
