Fantastic Farington Lodge

We have just moved to the area and have been to the lodge for breakfast and evening meals. Every time the staff have been excellent, friendly and welcoming. The quality of the food is outstanding and we have never had a bad experience. This is an absolute gem and would fully recommend it not only for a meal but to pop in for a coffee and a drink. Dog friendly as well which is a bonus for people with four legged friends. We will be regulars

Enjoyable Stay at Farrington Lodge

Arrived at Farrington Lodge to a warm welcome from reception staff. The same welcome & service was experienced throughout our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea, 4 sandwich fillings & none disappointed. There were so many cakes that upon signing a disclaimer we were able to box & take these. Waiting staff were attentive throughout but not overbearing to be stood over you.
We were staying at Farrington Lodge for the murder mystery night & that didn't disappoint either. It all felt a little surreal at first but we got in to it & had a good laugh solving the clues. It was something different and we would do it again.
The 3 course meal that accompanied the event was lovely. I had parfait, chicken followed by sticky toffee pudding. Portion sizes were good and after the large afternoon tea meant we were feeling quite full by pudding. The sticky toffee pudding was light, fluffy & delicious so we gave it a good go.
Our positive food experience didn't end there as we enjoyed a full English breakfast & toast this morning.
I can't understand the negative reviews because they are in stark contrast to our experience. We didn't see any ripped wallpaper or tired decor & were actually looking for things to corroborate the reviews we'd seen. The decor is in keeping with a stately home which was tasteful & gave a sense of grandeur.
All in all, a nice hotel that we will definitely return to. Welcoming & attentive staff, good & plentiful food, large spacious bedrooms & all at a good price. What's not to like. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Not the best by any means!

My daughter bought the Champagne Afternoon Tea for 2. The waitress could not find our name - despite it being the first on the list! The coffee was dreadful and the tea watery! We had to ask for the Champagne. When the afternoon tea eventually arrived the sandwiches were chunky, the 2 scones - small and hard and the profiteroles desperately lacking cream! Full on bread - we needed a doggie bag, but the staff appeared to have totally disappeared by this time! I noticed boxes stacked in the corridor, so we packed the remains ourselves and left - no farewell' or 'did you enjoy' - no one to be seen! And yes, the place is run down, and yes, the staff are inefficient, and yes, the food is questionable! We will not be returning!

Fabulous hotel, good food, excellent staff, good location, lovely grounds, good value, would definitely recommend, especially if you wanted to take you dog with you as they are pet friendly.

Disappointed

We had high tea here about two years ago and the food was terrible, however the staff were excellent.
Giving the lodge a second chance we visited again to hopefully enjoy our high tea experience.
Sadly this was not to be… the sandwiches were of poor quality, the ham had gristle and the pickle was overwhelming.
Cakes were dry and choking and the ginger cake so spicy it was inedible.
Such a shame the staff were excellent, the venue is lovely but the high tea was disappointing to say the least.
