The Thinnai

The Thinnai Hotel in Sri Lanka is truly a hidden gem! From the moment you enter, you feel right at home because of the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive – they really do their best to make your stay unforgettable. The rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and equipped with all the modern comforts you could wish for.
The garden and pool are beautifully maintained and offer a haven of peace. The food is absolutely delectable, with a mix of local specialties and international dishes perfectly prepared. And for those interested in the local culture, the hotel organizes various activities that give you a real insight into Sri Lankan life.
The location is also ideal, quiet yet at a good distance from various sights. The Thinnai Hotel truly offers a five star experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for luxury, comfort and an authentic experience in Sri Lanka. This hotel has exceeded my expectations in every way – I can’t wait to get back!

Beautiful hotel

What a wonderful and clean hotel. Very luxurious, food was buffet style. Both the local food was there, but also fruit and eggs. There was only toasted bread, they can put a little more variety in it. We even did our laundry, two washes for 13,- Fat five stars.

Hotel experience

The Thinnai is an excellent hotel with comfortable and clean rooms and fantastic service. Staff were polite and friendly . The room service was prompt and breakfast was delicious. It is centrally located with easy access to Jaffna and peripheries. I enjoyed my stay in Jaffna with my parents .

Lovely place to stay

My two adult daughters and I were here for New Year's Eve as part of our trip around Sri Lanka. Our room was spacious, quiet and clean. The wifi worked. We even had a large fridge and kitchen. The NY Eve banquet was very good though we were too tired from travelling to wait up till midnight. I recommend the crab curry. Service was helpful and friendly. Quiet location overlooking some fields so we heard birdlife at night and in the morning. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of food reflecting the region and culture - different from down south. We would happily come back here and spend more time in Jaffna.

Needs improvement

Overall would not stay again. It is a nice hotel but it really needs to up its game for the price they charge. The rooms are nice, nice restaurant with very friendly and helpful staff, and a really good swimming pool. Location is close to the university but rather distant to the main sights of Jaffna, but we knew this when booking. What was a bit of a disaster is the housekeeping. Room not serviced despite repeated asking. Main problem with this was lack of bottled water. When the room eventually got serviced after about 48 hours the used towels were taken away but not replaced with new towels and it took a lot of hassle to eventually get any towels at all for our room. Also had to chase up staff to get access to pool towels. After using pool towels we left them in the ‘used pool towels’ basket but then were chased by phone asking if we had taken them back to our room - we hadn’t. The worst thing was that the sink in our room had a jammed stop which made it unusable and again we had to chase several times before this was fixed 2 days later. In hotel at this price it is not acceptable to have an unusable sink for this amount of time.
