Feeling at home

We had a nice stay here in Douglas, the rooms were nice and luckily there were air cons, because it was extremely hot in Douglas. The breakfast the next morning was delicious, just note, it isn't included in the accommodation price...

Grumpy Host to a Group of 6

Host is unpleasant and grumpy, implying that we broke his gate by lifting it from the rails, after we, as well as other guest that stay there on a regular basis, told him nobody approached the gate, he mentioned that the gate cannot get derailed by itself… absolutely unnecessary, unacceptable and unpleasant experience. Will defiantly not stay there again.

nice stay

This is the third time that I stayed here. The owner is very pleasant and takes great care of his guests. Breakfast is a good South African breakfast although they could use fresh fruit for the fruit salad in season. The rooms are neat, but the back rooms are relatively small. The house is extremely hot in summer but the air conditioning works well. They are planning to build a small pool for the summer months, which would be fantastic. If you are staying for longer, ask for the larger rooms which also have a small fridge.

average stay

We arrived late, and when we called the owner to check-in he was very grumpy. He treated me like an errant school kid and I did not feel welcome. I wanted to move to another guesthouse.
He did not explain details and the next morning breakfast was not ready as I did not complete the slip (which I was not told about).
The room was air-conditioned which is critical in a hot place like Douglas.
There was not much for vegetarians and vegans until I complained to the hostess. She then went out of her way to provide tasty dinners upon request.
They did not provide fruit for breakfast until specifically requested. One has to specifically make requests for stuff that one would expect in a guesthouse.

A Gem

This is a gem in Douglas, Northern Cape. Surely not what you would expect in a small town. Well decorated and large rooms, extremely neat. This is upmarket and with a restaurant that the owners can be proud of.
