Great location, naturalist host

Our room was filled with natural light and lovely views of the river (not to mention the goats across the way with tinkling bells and all the birds).
Our hosts made available to us birding books, walked us to Islamic museum to make sure we found it and generally introduced to a very lovely area. We originally headed here on a lark and found a community with a lot of history, natural beauty and quiet.

Wonderful place!

We stayed in Casa do Funil for two nights.
cozy, well designed and very clean place. The windows of the rooms have wonderful views of the valley. There are cafes and restaurants within walking distance.
The host was very nice and welcoming, helped us with everything we needed.
We had great time there!

Portugese hospitality in a ancient town full of history.

The city of Mértola, it's athmosphere, the inhabitants and the many beautiful and hidden treasures in and around the city have astonished us. The view out of the house and terrace is beautiful. More importantly, the kindness and hospitality of the hosts Paula and Rui are a token to the immense warmth and sympathy of the Portugese people. If you can, go visit the Minas of Sao Domingo. (Rui is a fantasic and enthusiast guide) This was not our first visit to Portugal, it certainly was one of the most enjoyable. One point of warning though which I am sure will be resolved by our next visit: the absence of an airco may be a slight point of improvement. Yes you read it correctly, we will be back.

Very special place!

Beautifully restored home on a hill above the Guadiana River. We learned so much from the owners about the town and surrounding areas, and would have loved to have stayed longer. Hope to go back some day! Highly recommend Casa do Funil and Mertola.

Very cute and cosy

Very Nice couple, very nice room, en suite bathroom. It could be à bit cold at night in winter but there was a radiator that you could use. For the bedding it would have been nice to have a duvet available and therefore not to have to use 4 blankets on top of each other to be warm enough. Breakfast on the terrace was soooo lovely. A must.
