Good location
The hotel location is in the very heart of Riga by the 13. janvāra iela right nearby and/or opposite the Centrālā stacija, Autoosta, Centraltirgus, Origo, the Central Train Station, Main Bus Station, Central Market, Shopping Centre Origo, Stockmann, Forum Cinemas, and right at the very start of Vecrīga, the Old Town. With tram stop and bus stop "13. janvāra iela" 15 metres from hotel entrance, including the airport bus no. 22 stopping at bus stop "Autoosta" 25 metres from hotel entrance.
At a first glance this hotel seemed to be quite a good deal, first the location, an attractive rate/price, complimentary free bottle of wine, supposedly newly refurbished, modern, spacious, great view, good service, average good rating, several previous relatively good reviews, etc.
Basically the only thing that is good is the location. The room was not as advertised in reality it was a super tiny room where you barely can move around in. The walls are paper thin and you are able to hear people from the room next to. There is zero view as you only can see straight into the wall of the building 1 meter across the back street. There was also mold fungi in the shower.
The wardrobe doors was worn down and derailed and thus misconfigured so you weren't able to put in all your stuff in the wardrobe because the doors were worn out and unhinged and as the room is so tiny they don't open all the way.
Bathroom also super tiny and not suitable for any person above 175 cm height as you have to hunch down in the shower as it's mounted to the wall configured only for short people. Complimentary "Pelagas" brand "Zen"-collection toiletries in the bathroom. Didn't use them however, so cannot judge if they're any good. WC from Villeroy & Boch.
The wall-mouthed "LG" brand flat-screen TV offers no connectivity via screen-sharing/Miracast/Chromecast/AirPlay but there are many TV-channels in Latvian, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Arabic, Italian, Spanish, English and even a Japanese and Korean TV-channel plus multiple movie-TV-channels.
There were two complimentary bottles of plastic "Everest" brand water, one carbonated, one non-carbonated in the room.
Overall the Avalon Hotel & Conferences Hotel in Riga advertises as a premium experience with big, bright spacious newly-refurbished rooms, but in reality the rooms are tiny, very cramped, it's very dark and it's not that new at all, with a lot of wear and tear, scratches, and as previously mentioned broken wardrobe plus mold fungi in shower, etc.
The WiFi signal in my room was not consistent and dropped and too weak to watch any streaming video content without it lagging, so You're better off streaming directly via Your 4G/5G mobile phone instead.
The hotel requires either a cash deposit of 70 EUR or a card deposit of 30 EUR which is not mentioned beforehand when making a non-cancellable, non-refundable pre-paid reservation, this is actually quite a lot of money to fork out, especially when it's not included in the booking conditions. Also the reception staff is like robots, absolutely no service mind whatsoever and do not expect any smiles.
I normally only stay at hotels affiliated with a proper hotel chain, but since I got what seemed like a quite good deal and significant discount, I decided to give the Avalon a chance. For the standard price without the discount it's definitely not worth it, and even with the discount I got from my frequent traveler programme, there are yet several other nearby much better alternatives around with much better facilities, staff and better value for money.

Amazing hotel near the central train and bus station
I recommend this hotel if you need easy access to the central bus and train station and not far at all from town.
