Cheap flights to Seychelles land at Victoria Airport. This transportation hub is located on Mahé Island, which is the largest island of the Seychelles. Travelers can get from island to island on fast ferries by sea or short-hop planes, including seaplanes. To get around on Mahé Island itself, you can take taxis. Most taxi fares are no more than $25.
Attractions in Seychelles
Flights to Seychelles provide visitors with a variety of things to see and do, but the chief attractions in the Seychelles Islands are the natural wonders. From the world's biggest seeds, which weigh up to 40 pounds each, to the wildlife in any one of the six marine sanctuaries, including the aptly named humphead parrotfish, you can enjoy interacting with exotic flora and fauna. Baie Ternay, Silhouette and Ile Coco were among the first conservation areas set up in the western Indian Ocean. The hawksbill and green turtles that are almost synonymous with the islands are both endangered, the hawksbill critically so, and both have been protected since 1994. Snorkeling with these animals in their native habitat is both invigorating and educational.
Hints and Tips for Visiting Seychelles
Many people in the islands speak English, but it's a good idea to learn a few French phrases as well. You could also learn a bit of Creole, which is a pidgin style of French found all over islands in the Indian Ocean, from Mauritius and the Maldives to the Seychelles Islands. If you want to immerse yourself in Creole culture, you should visit the islands in October when the "Festival Kreol" takes place over one full week.
The islands have a warm, tropical climate; the daily lows rarely average less than 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and the daily highs average 86 degrees. Keen travelers will visit based on which leisure activities they want to pursue. For example, if you plan on swimming, snorkeling, diving and sunbathing, it's best to visit the Seychelles during either April or October when there are gaps in the trade winds. If you want to sail while you're here, then the periods from October to March and May to September offer just the conditions you seek. The winds during the period from May to September are stronger and therefore better for more advanced sailors than for beginners. If you'd like to go bird watching, particularly for sooty terns, then May through September is the time to travel here.
Cheap flights to Seychelles will let you make room in your budget to try all the varieties of seafood on the islands. Mid-range, three-course meals for two cost about $60.
