About Silk Avia

US Airways is one of the largest airlines in the USA, operating over three thousand flights each day. The majority of their routes tackle the Americas, with their most popular routes serving the East Coast, South West, and the islands of the Caribbean.

In 2013, US Airways merged with American Airlines to create the world’s largest airline. As part of the integration process US Airways left the Star Alliance and is now a member of Oneworld. In the future US Airways will use the branding of American Airlines, but is planning to keep using the US Airways hubs in Phoenix, Charlotte and Philadelphia for at least five years. The merged airline will be run from Fort Worth in Texas.

Very useful for comparing prices and planning your flights.. especially if you're a budget traveller.

Online check in is available from 24 hours before departure. Check in closes 90 minutes before departure for travelers flying on an international route, while domestic travelers can check-in online a leisurely 45 minutes before flying. You can also check in the old fashioned way at the US Airways or American Airlines desk.
Each passenger is allowed to bring one carry-on bag measuring up to 45 inches on board, as well as one smaller personal item such as a ladies handbag or a laptop bag. Duty free items and diaper bags for infants can be brought on board in addition to these limits. Baggage allowance and fees are based on route. Domestic travelers pay $25 for their first bag, $35 for a second, $150 for a third, and $200 per bag for additional pieces. The fees are the same for travelers heading to Mexico, the Caribbean, or Central America although the second bag will cost $40 instead of $35. Travelers heading to Brazil can bring two pieces of luggage for free. Additional bags cost $85 each. Likewise, travelers flying to South America can bring two free pieces of luggage. A third bag costs $150, and any additional bags cost $200. Finally, transatlantic travelers can bring one piece of checked baggage for free. If you want to bring a second bag this will cost $100, and additional bags are charged at $200 each. Bag fees are per person each way.
Legroom on US Airways is fairly generous, particularly on the wide body jet fleet. Economy passengers benefit from a 30-32” seat pitch, while Business class passengers get 48-49” with a whopping 62” seat pitch on the Boeing 200-ER. Regional jets have a less generous legroom allowance, with 31” for economy passengers and 37” for those in Business class. You can choose your seat for free during booking, however it costs extra if you want to book a ‘Choice Seat’ which is closer to the front of the plane. Price ranges from $5 to $99.
It costs extra to book tickets at the reservation desk. Charges start at $25 for domestic flights and $35 for international. There are no fees for passengers who book their flight online. You can purchase a paper ticket for $50, if you’re not comfortable with e-ticketing.
Non-alcoholic drinks are served free of charge, but beer, wines, and spirits are available for purchase. On routes lasting more than 2 hours and 45 minutes, passengers can also purchase food from the range of hot meals and snack boxes. Long-haul passengers can upgrade to a Dine Fresh meal which includes a glass of wine. Sweets, nuts, chips, and other small snacks are available to buy on flights lasting over an hour.
US Airways has a good punctuality record, with 81% of flights arriving and departing on schedule during 2013.
